• To reduce costs, 52% of the 50 + employees layed off while the percentage decreases when it comes to smaller companies (24% of the medium sized companies with 10 – 49 employees and 23% of the companies with 3 –9 employees)
• 20% of the companies blocked investment budgets
• 21% of the companies froze salaries

The survey conducted by Mercury Research shows that had different approaches to face the current economic situation depending on their size. Very small companies are the most passive, 62% did not take any anti – crisis measure.
The smaller the companies are, the more focused they are on blocking the investment budgets. On the other hand, the bigger the companies are, the more concentrated they are on laying off. For all companies, freezing the salaries or the bonuses, as well as reducing the budgets for trainings/ team-buildings represent important measures, this approach being more adopted by middle companies.

The survey was conducted in April 2009 on 200 companies, the interviews being realized among the top management employees. The interviews were realized online and by telephone.
