TGI has been developed by the top British research agency BMRB (British Market Research Bureau). BMRB, the owner of the TGI trademark, is also a co-founder of Kantar Media Research, the global media group that includes companies like Millward Brown, IBOPE, Simmons Market Research Bureau, IMRB.

Introduced in 1969 in UK, TGI (Target Group Index) has become ever since an international media currency with a worldwide presence which includes over 40 countries (www.tgisurveys.com)

In Romania TGI has been exclusively licensed to Mercury Research since 1999.
