Best of ESOMAR Romania 2020: What is changing because of the pandemic?
The presentation for Best of ESOMAR 2020 focuses on how Romanians' life plans are changing as a result of the new coronavirus. Mercury Research conducted a survey at the end of March, in which it was observed that the fear of coronavirus was very high, even greater than the fear of being left without any source of income.
The hypothesis from which it started was that 20% unemployed will mean 20% who will consume less, leading to important decreases in the income of companies, which will trigger a cycle of economic recession. In a situation like this, people with affected incomes would no longer be able to buy houses or cars or telephones. In short, if the intentions to take a loan would decrease, especially for the real estate loan, a serious and lasting recession would appear.
During the last year, no statistically significant difference was found regarding the number of those who intend to take a home loan. An interpretation would be that the pandemic has not changed the Romanians' long-term life plans or intentions have nothing to do with reality, and in fact, the number of those who have a real estate loan has decreased.
